Ash bowl with rim inlay

ash bowl IMG_6570.jpg

This is a bowl from local ash. It had two large cracks that I repaired with tinted epoxy.

I cut a shallow groove in the rim and glued in pennies. Then filled the voids with red-tinted epoxy resin. Sanded back to expose the inside of the pennies.

10" dia x 4" high. Different colours because newer pennies are no longer copper, but zinc alloys.

Comments welcome.

Gerald,
this is amazing, before I read the post I wondered how you cut such perfect little circles for the rim! How ingenious! Thank you for sharing... keep them coming.
I unfortunately haven't been in the shop as much as I would like - just cut down some juniper which smells great when cutting, can't wait to make a small bowl with it.
